Hi Jo — Thanks for your comment. I also have noticed that the authors and story types/genres have been limited on my homepage. It’s off-putting!

I don’t want Medium to decide to feed me only certain authors or genres based on my past viewing. That’s a tactic for marketers trying to sell through Facebook or Google.

I want to discover new authors and new genres. I want an ever-expanding community to tap into. Medium seems to think they are doing me a favor by “personalizing” my feed. They are not. They are limiting my choices and putting obstacles in my way to pursue interests the algorithm doesn’t know about.

If you walked into a public library, and a guard at the door said, “You may only have access to the books in stacks A, E and Q, because that’s what you seem to be interested in,” I dare say you’d turn around and find another library.

Like I said in the article, I love Medium, and I hope they rethink this approach. It’s not working for me at the moment. Best, Cristo
